Data on Poverty Trends in Serbia

Statements on PRS

“Now we have the framework (PRS)—and the framework is good. This is one of the rare occasions when a new Government does not change the strategy of the previous Government, when everything starts all over again. We know that a significant number of our fellow-citizens lives below the poverty line. They live in various regions of the country, and various activities can improve their position. We all are obliged to link our activities in order to enable a better life for them.”

Miroljub Labus,
former Deputy Prime Minister,
at the Conference on Poverty Reduction in Serbia,
Plandište, Ferbuary 22, 2005.

Business Community Advisory Committee

Business Community Advisory Committee participated in the PRS preparation, and it comprised representatives of the Employers' Union, the Entrepreneurial Council at the Ministry of Economy and Privatisation, the Association of Economists of Serbia, the Association of Joint-Stock Companies of Serbia, the Baker's Union, the Regional Centre for Development of Small and Medium Enreprises and the Council for Foreign Investments.

At this moment there are initiatives for including the business community in the PRS implementation process. Corporate Social Responsibility represents one of such opportunities. Corporate Social Responsibility represents an initiative whose goal is the introduction of standards into company management, cross-sectoral cooperation and inclusion of Serbian companies in finding solutions to issues of great importance for economic growth and poverty reduction. This initiative is gathering more and more companies, and is supported by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Foreign Investors Council. The PRS Implementation Focal Point is putting in efforts for the inclusion of priorities identified in the PRS into plans and future activities of Serbian companies in the field of corporate social responsibility.
